Chapter 233: The Fight
Chapter 233: The Fight
Zeke moved first, faster than thought and sound. The ground cracked beneath his feet as demonic power detonated through his muscles and launched him forward in a red-hot blur aimed straight at Alcaeus’s throat.
Alcaeus smiled and caught Zeke by the face.
His palm slammed into Zeke’s features with enough force to send a shockwave ripping outward that could flatten debris and bodies alike.
Zeke’s feet left the ground as he was driven backwards, his spine carving a trench through broken stone and corpses before he finally slammed into a tree.
The impact should have pulverised him. It should have left the past Zeke trying to get back on his feet, but the current Zeke coughed once, spat blood, and laughed.
Then, he kicked off the rubble and came back swinging, his fist glowing with demonic heat as he slammed it into Alcaeus’s ribs with a concussive blast loud enough to sound like thunder.
Zeke heard bones crack, and Alcaeus slid back a single step, his boots carving lines into the earth.
His smile widened as he looked up at Zeke, "That’s new," he said mildly.
Behind him, the demon wearing Theo moved.
She didn’t rush Zevon like Zeke had did to Alcaeus, she glided instead and the air warped as she moved. Her claws formed mid-motion as she covered the distance between them, silver light flashing violently beneath her skin as Seraphina surged upward in defiance.
Zevon reacted instinctively, and the shadows erupted outward from his body like a living tide, slamming into the demon with crushing force. The collision cracked the ground beneath them and sent darkness and silver light spiralling upward in a violent clash of power
The demon hissed, her claws shredding through shadow as she twisted mid-air and drove her knee into Zevon’s chest.
He didn’t move because he had caught her leg, and his fist tightened with inhuman strength, and more shadows coiled around his arm like living iron.
"You are not her," Zevon said, his voice low and vibrating with layered power and rage.
The demon grinned at him mischievously, "And yet," she purred, "You still hesitate."
She twisted sharply, breaking his grip and slammed her elbow into his jaw. The blow sent him skidding back several meters, his boots carving a path before coming to a halt.
Zevon barely had time to straighten before she was on him again, her claws ripping through shadow and flesh alike, carving three burning gashes across his chest.
Black mist poured from the wounds instead of blood.
The demon paused, her eyes narrowing, "You’re better acquainted with Erebos’s power than last time,"
Zevon surged forward, shadows exploding outward as he slammed his fist into her abdomen. The impact lifted her clean off the ground and hurled her through trees till she finally came to a stop, rolling on the floor.
She rose to her feet once again, laughing wickedly, "This is sad, really. You both are fighting so hard to bring me down and get her back, but there’s no hope of your mate ever returning, you know. Alcaeus didn’t just erase her soul, he made sure he broke every atom of her will, and gave her no hope to hand unto,"
Zevon growled at the demon, and at the same time, silver light flared violently beneath her skin, as Seraphina snarled once again. Her spine arched sharply as if resisting the demon’s control.
Zeke roared across the battlefield, meeting Alcaeus. He met him head-on once again as their collision shook the air.
Fist met fist, and power screamed. Zeke’s demon surged fully now, his veins glowing red beneath his skin as he drove blow after blow into Alcaeus’s guard, each strike heavy enough to crater the ground.
Alcaeus absorbed them, redirected them, and returned them with brutal precision, his counters cracking ribs, splitting flesh, and tearing muscle.
Zeke was smiling through the blood, "You hit harder than before," Zeke snarled. "Still not enough."
He ducked a killing blow and slammed his head forward, his skull connecting with Alcaeus’s nose in a sickening crunch. Alcaeus reeled back half a step, his dark blood splattering the ground.
Zeke seized the opening and unleashed more. He grabbed Alcaeus by the collar and drove him into the ground with a full-body slam, his demonic energy detonating outward and ripping a crater several meters wide. The shockwave was so big that it threw lesser demons screaming into the air.
Alcaeus rose slowly from the crater with dust and blood coating his face. His eyes burned, knowing he had underestimated Zeke this time.
"Good," he said, gritting his teeth, "I was afraid death had dulled you."
He struck instantly and Zeke didn’t see it this time.
One moment he was standing, the next his body was folding around Alcaeus’s fist as it drove straight through his guard and into his abdomen. The blow lifted Zeke off his feet, folding him nearly in half before hurling him across the battlefield like a broken weapon. Zeke smashed into the ground, bounced a few times hard on the floor, then slid to a stop.
For a moment, he didn’t move.
Zevon snapped his eyes at them, slightly worried.
He turned just in time to see the Demon lunge again, her claws aimed for his throat. He caught her wrist, and the shadows snapped tight around her arm, before he slammed his forehead into hers.
Silver light exploded between them, and she shrieked and staggered back, her hands flying to her head. Seraphina surged violently again, her silver eyes blazing through the demon’s gaze, "No," the demon snarled aloud, forcing control back down, "Stay buried."
"You can’t silence her," Zevon said, advancing forward, "She hates you,"
"And you love her," The demon snapped back, "That’s your weakness."
She lunged again, but this time Zevon didn’t block intentionally. He let her claws rake across his side, and he let the pain register, so that Erebos could learn.
So that that slightly doubt Erebos still had would fade completely, and the true powers of this demon would finally be unleashed.
Zevon could force Erebos. But it was better he learnt first. That way, they would work together better.
Zevon grabbed her by the throat and slammed her into the ground hard enough to split it open. Shadows poured down around them like a coffin as she screamed, thrashed with silver light flaring wildly as Seraphina fought harder than before, tearing at the demon’s control from within.
Zeke rose once again, with blood now streaming from his mouth and nose. His body was bruised and broken, but his eyes burned brighter than ever.
Alcaeus appeared in front of him instantly, and his fist slammed into Zeke’s jaw and snapped his head back. Zeke responded by biting down hard on Alcaeus’s forearm, with his teeth sinking deep and his demonic heat seared Alcaeus’s flesh.
Alcaeus roared and wrenched his arm free, ripping Zeke off with it and throwing him aside.
Zeke sprang up again and came back for another round.
"I’ll rid you of this world," Alcaeus’s bones cracked as his wolf responded, "And this time, and I’ll do it properly,"
