Chapter 122- The Shackled Nobles (Part 5)

Forcing down their disgust, they looked up and formed a circle around each other to keep their eyes on every single possible angle. It was completely silent and eerie. Everything had come to a halt, and the world froze around them. They didn’t know if that feeling was merely out of fear or truly the result of this monster watching them from somewhere around.

"This feeling..."

"Are we... Being watched?" One whispered as they gulped down a mouthful of saliva.

"Possibly..." One replied with a focused look. "They are around here somewhere. Lady Fiona is right."

Those words sent chills down their spines. Nothing scarier than strong vampires who are hidden from plain sight. They were being watched, but they didn’t know from where, and that was enough of an indication that this vampire was strong... Extremely so.

Meanwhile, Fiona approached one of the dead corpses and examined it with her eyes. Her eyes were cold, but there was a hint of sadness within them. Not even she would feel completely cold toward one of her people’s deaths. Such a gruesome death, she wouldn’t even wish upon her worst enemy, let alone one of her followers.

"Good work... Rest in peace." She muttered. ’It seems their bodies have been melted by some sort of substance. Could that be the vampire’s rune?’

She trailed the blood with her eyes and tried to understand where this creature could have gone. But, it was easier said than done when there was blood everywhere, and the only way to track them is to find a strong blood lead.

"..." Fiona slowly crouched down and put her hand on the ground as she closed her eyes. Then, she pumped her energy into the ground, spreading it everywhere around her as she started creating a blood map in her mind, knowing every droplet was, every trail, every splash, and every single detail.

It was one of the many abilities that she uses.

Meanwhile, Elio watched her in awe, admiring her abilities. Every time he sees her in action, he realizes how truly powerful Fiona is. He doesn’t think about that much because the side he usually sees is the casual and friendly Fiona; however, the Fiona who is notorious in the entire world was a power to be reckoned with. She was a true Vampire Hunter and one of the strongest in the world.

"Hm, it seems I was right... They didn’t go far." She said as she opened her eyes. "They are still around here."

"Wait, they?!" Elio blurted out. "There is more than one?"

"Yes. The blood pattern and the way these people died isn’t something one vampire can do. It is a group... Possibly more than 4." She said with a sharp look on her face. Fiona had scanned so many blood patterns in her life that she could guess the number of vampires without even seeing what happened.

"But. Hm, this is odd." She said. "Their movement is so... weird and unorthodox."

"What do you mean?" Elio asked.

Fiona didn’t reply immediately as she seemingly fell into deep thought. As she scanned the area, Fiona noticed the way these hunters died, and she could only raise several questions. The way these vampires potentially moved didn’t feel like the movement of a group of vampires... It was almost like they were moving in a pattern.

Vampires don’t do that, at least not in that manner. It just didn’t make sense to her, someone who had studied vampires her entire life.

"..."

"What do you mean, Fion-"

As Elio was about to ask another question, Fiona suddenly felt a chill run down her spine as her senses went off. Her eyes widened as her body moved on its own. She didn’t think she processed; she didn’t even understand what this threat was.

All her mind thought was Elio. Her sword drew like a flash as she sliced with it near Elio’s neck. Her aim was precise and terrifying.

’Elio!’

*CLANG*

Elio heard a loud ringing sound next to his ear that threatened to shatter his eardrum. He immediately moved his head as he grabbed his ear.

"What the fuck?!!!"

Looking up, all he saw was a shadow that moved like a flash. It happened so fast that even with his enhanced vision, he could only take a glimpse of it.

"Elio! Move!!" Fiona yelled as she grabbed him and tried to rush away. However, there was no time; the shadow had moved again.

Quickly, Fiona slashed with her sword, deflecting the hit with a loud bang. Her entire arm shook violently from the impact. It felt extremely painful.

At the same time, the other hunters started moving. The attack had begun. Spreading around, they tried to find the culprit. They were fast, but they were experienced with fast vampires.

Stretching their presence into a bigger area made them open targets, but also gave them the opportunity to find the enemy and attack.

Meanwhile, Fiona tried to move Elio out of danger. The boy had already recovered his senses and tried to look around.

"We are being attacked! Don’t lift your head!"

Elio listened as he quickly ducked down. Walking into an alley, Fiona dropped with him to the ground.

’Dammit, they’re everywhere, and they know we can’t see them.’ Fiona clicked her tongue. She saw them, a small glimpse, but it was enough to realize why their movement was so odd and incomprehensible.

’They’re chained together.’ She frowned. This was the very first time she had come across such a thing. Why these vampires were chained and why they were moving together was a complete mystery.

Meanwhile, the group standing around waited for the next attack. Several seconds felt like an eternity.

"Stay alert! They’re around here somewhere!" One person yelled.

At the same time, another one started actively building ice walls with his runes to form a barrier around them, making sure they know where the attack is coming from. The walls weren’t thick, but they were thick enough to slow these vampires down and give them a chance.

The rest activated their main abilities, waiting for the right moment to strike.

They were ready, and they won’t let this chance pass.

Except... They didn’t think of one single possibility... One that would change their plan from being smart... To an utter disaster.
